Give the video one job
Do not embed a brand video at the top of every article. Match one clip to one section.
Useful jobs include a direct expert answer, a product or method demonstration, an explanation of a tradeoff, a walkthrough of a source or figure, a correction of a misconception, a boundary or limitation, or a practical next step.
Write a contract: this video helps a specific audience understand a specific question by showing a specific explanation or evidence. If the clip does not fulfill that sentence, choose another clip or keep the section text-only.
Build the answer stack
Place six elements together: the written answer, expert clip, transcript, sources, boundary, and next path.
Give the answer in two or three sentences before or beside the video. Do not hide the page core value inside playback.
Embed the smallest complete video that supports the answer. Identify the speaker and their relationship to the subject.
Provide an accurate text version. Correct transcription errors and add speaker labels, but do not silently change the expert claim.
Link the paper, documentation, dataset, release note, or primary material supporting factual claims.
State what the clip does not establish. A demonstration is not a customer outcome; an expert opinion is not a consensus statement.

Know when a blog post is not a watch page
Google distinguishes a dedicated watch page, where watching one video is the main purpose, from a page where video is complementary, such as a blog post with an embedded clip.
A complementary clip can improve an article, but the page is not automatically a watch page eligible for every video search feature. If a video deserves its own destination, create a watch page with a unique title and description, then embed the same video in the related article when useful.
Avoid creating thin watch pages for every clip. Each page needs an audience purpose.
Make the video discoverable
Google video SEO guidance recommends common video or embed elements, rendered HTML, stable URLs, and media that does not require a user action merely to become discoverable.
Check that you use a standard video, iframe, embed, or object element; allow appropriate crawling of the page and media; keep media and thumbnail URLs stable; provide a valid, unique thumbnail; do not hide the player behind another element; give the video a unique title and description; test the rendered page and mobile player; and update or remove expired media cleanly.
Use Search Console video-indexing and rich-result tools rather than assuming the player is visible to search systems.
Add accurate structured data
Where appropriate, add VideoObject structured data that matches the visible page and video.
Google documents required properties including name, thumbnailUrl, and uploadDate. Recommended information can include description, duration, contentUrl, or embedUrl.
Follow current documentation because supported properties can change. Do not mark up a video users cannot watch on the page, and keep structured data consistent with visible content.
Schema.org defines a transcript property for media objects, but Google does not promise that every Schema.org property creates a search feature. Provide the transcript primarily because it helps people access and inspect the answer.
Google does not guarantee rich results even when markup is valid.
Design for AI discovery without promises
There is no reliable switch that makes a generative system cite a page. Google guidance for its AI search experiences points publishers back to the same fundamentals: original value, a good page experience, and accessible content.
For an expert-video article, answer the question plainly; identify the speaker and expertise; add firsthand detail unavailable in generic summaries; source factual claims; label opinion, inference, and uncertainty; use descriptive headings; provide text around the video; link maintained sources; and update outdated explanations.
The unique value should come from the expert work and judgment, not from restating search results on camera.

Accessibility and page quality
W3C recommends captions, transcripts, and descriptions of essential visual information. Check caption accuracy, keyboard access, contrast, and player controls. Avoid autoplay with sound.
Do not let a heavy embed damage reading. Use responsive dimensions, an appropriate player, performance testing, and a poster image that does not cause layout shift.
Honest limitations
Video increases production and maintenance cost. Interfaces change, experts revise views, and URLs expire. Assign an owner and update trigger.
Third-party hosting may create another indexed version. Decide which page should serve the audience main job.
A transcript can make speech available as text, but it does not make the page original or authoritative by itself. Quality still depends on the answer, evidence, speaker, and surrounding article.

Content checks: one specific video job, direct written answer, identified expert, accurate transcript, primary sources, visible limitation, and deeper next path.
Technical checks: rendered and accessible player, stable media and thumbnail URLs, unique title and description, accurate VideoObject data when appropriate, responsive playback, Search Console monitoring, and an update or removal process.
Use expert video to make a blog post more useful and inspectable. Search and AI discovery are possible downstream effects, not promises the embed itself can make.
